Additionally, content creator Julien Chièze had the opportunity to speak to creator Yang Bing, who shared some information regarding optimizations for the PS5 Pro version.

PS5 Pro Optimizations

The Lost Soul Aside creator didn’t go into specific details regarding PS5 Pro optimizations for Lost Soul Aside. When asked whether the game will take advantage of the console’s PSSR AI upscaling technology, he didn’t provide a clear answer. There was also no mention of more in-depth support for ray tracing on Sony’s mid-gen console compared tot he base PS5. The official PlayStation website page mentions that Lost Soul Aside will support lifelike shadows, physically-accurate reflections and high-fidelity lighting through its use of advanced ray-tracing technology. One would expect the PS5 Pro to offer some of these ray tracing features in a possible performance mode that targets 60 fps. Bing did share that the mid-gen console will run the game at a higher resolution and more stable frame rate compared to the base PS5 version.

During a recent interview, Lost Soul Aside producer Yang Bing was asked about reason behind the game’s prolonged delay and lengthy development cycle. In response, he talked about beginning development as an individual and then received attention after the announcement, which led to many partners and friends teaming up with him on the project. He mentioned that his personal experience and capability were not sufficient to turn it into an actual game that could be released. According to him, a lot of time was spent on building the team, going through personal growth, and facing trial and error.

At that time, Bing and his team at Ultizero Games didn’t know much about game development, and they continued to make mistakes. There was a period of low morale, but the team gradually found its rhythm. After receiving further support and attention, the developer’s capability and experience improved, as did the development process. With the project finally coming to an end, he looks forward to what the team can deliver in the future.

Although the studio has made several changes to Lost Soul Aside’s throughout the course of its development, Bing said that the art assets and many things beyond the graphics that everyone saw and appreciated in the initial trailer have been retained. For example, the main story has been fleshed out and the combat remains fast-paced and fluid.

Regarding Sony Interactive Entertainment’s involvement, Bing mentioned that the development team has made optimizations according to the feedback from the publisher, including changes to enemies and their behavior. He added that several details are still in the process of being polished.

Lost Soul Aside is set for release on May 30, 2025, for PS5 and PC.

Much like Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party titles, third-party games that are developed in partnership with PlayStation have had a mandatory PSN account requirement on Steam, making them impossible to purchase in regions where it isn’t possible to create said account. However, it appears that these developers now option to opt out of the third-party account requirement, allowing their titles to be available in every Steam region.

The first notable example is upcoming Lost Soul Aside, which, despite being a single-player title, had a PSN account listed as a mandatory requirement on its Steam store page. The action role-playing game is being developed by Ultizero Games in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and had third-party account requirement in place due to the latter’s involvement. However, this is no longer the case, and it is now purchasable on Steam in regions that aren’t supported by PlayStation Network.

The Steam Database reveals that the mandatory PlayStation Network requirement was removed from Lost Soul Aside’s Steam store page last month on December 19, 2024. It’s unclear whether this is a change in policy at Sony Interactive Entertainment for all of its future titles, or if the removal of the PSN account requirement is only an option for partnered third-party games.

Currently, both of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming Steam releases, Marvel’s Spider-man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, continue to have the mandatory PlayStation Network account requirement in place.

Lost Soul Aside took the internet with surprise when it was revealed to be the work of a single developer, Yang Bing. It was originally announced in 2016 and once the original game went viral, Sony approached the developer offering support bumping the development team to 30 members, as shared by Daniel Ahmed.

The new gameplay video showcases various action sequences and gives a basic overview of how the game has evolved since it was originally announced back in 2016. This footage is apparently running on the PS5 while the game’s engine was revealed to be Unreal Engine 4.

Lost Soul Aside was originally announced for the PS4 but it should also release on the PS5. The game is also reportedly coming to PC but there is no release date set for it.

Lost Soul Aside takes the character action genre and brings new stylish action into the mix. There is not much known about the game but based on the footage that was released today, it looks quite promising so far.

Another new addition to the development team was the confirmation of Cody Mathew Johnson as the main composer for the game. Since this is still in development, don’t expect to hear about a release window anytime soon.
