As per new listing on its website, the Australian Classification Board has rated Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game has been given a rating of PG, which stands for Mild Violence, meaning that the game is not recommended for viewing by people under the age of 15 without guidance from parents, teachers or guardians. The listing mentions April 2, 2024, as the date of classification.

Earlier this month, Hollow Knight: Silksong received a surprise listing on the Xbox store. Both the rating and listing went up on April 1, 2024, and the game was being promoted by the content and marketing manager at Xbox as well as the marketing manager for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Interestingly, the Xbox Store also revealed that Hollow Knight: Silksong had been rated by ESRB, which indicated that a release date announcement may happen sometime soon. It has been rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence and Mild Blood, which is in line with the Mild Violence rating given by the Australian Classification Board. The game takes place in a kingdom filled with bugs and has similar gameplay to its predecessor, with a greater emphasis on speed, combat, and platforming.

Developer Team Cherry took to Twitter to announce that its forthcoming sequel to Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has been delayed past the first half of 2023. In its post, the developer stated that it had originally planned to release the metroidvania title during the first half of 2023. However, it added that development is still ongoing.

The studio shared its excitement for how the game is shaping up, and mentioned that it the project has been a significant undertaking. As such, the developer decided to take the time to make the game as good as it can.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is an upcoming Metroidvania game developed and published by Team Cherry for Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was first announced on February 14, 2019, as a sequel to the popular 2017 game, Hollow Knight.

Silksong takes place in a kingdom filled with bugs and has similar gameplay to its predecessor, Hollow Knight, with a greater emphasis on speed, combat, and platforming. The player takes control of Hornet, an insectoid creature who wields a needle to fight off enemies, including over 165 different types that are planned to appear in the game. Hornet also meets friendly non-playable characters along her journey.

One of the new features in Silksong is the quest system, where characters will ask Hornet to complete various tasks across four different sections: Hunt, Gather, Wayfarer, and Grand Hunt. Additionally, Hornet can craft weapons, tools, and traps from materials she gathers during her adventure. Unlike the Knight from Hollow Knight, Hornet uses silk instead of soul to heal. She can quickly heal three masks of damage while on the move, as opposed to the Knight’s slow, one-mask-at-a-time healing method that leaves him vulnerable to more attacks.

Summer Game Fest 2022 commences on June 9 at 2 PM EDT / 11 AM PDT. The event is said to include a live, cross-industry showcase of announcements and games, and will be hosted by none other than Geoff Keighley. A world premiere for Hollow Knight Silksong would be a huge deal for the show, as it is the eagerly awaited sequel to the original Hollow Knight.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a 2D Metroidvania action-adventure game set in a haunting realm overrun by insects. The gameplay is substantially the same as its predecessor, with a greater focus on speed. Hornet, an insectoid monster who fights with a needle, is controlled by the player. Hornet confronts a variety of nasty animals along her journey. Over 165 distinct opponents are planned for the game. Hornet will also come across a number of non-player characters that are friendly.

A mission system will be present in Silksong, in which characters will ask Hornet to perform certain demands. There are at least four sections to the quest system: Hunt, Gather, Wayfarer, and Grand Hunt. Hornet will be able to create weapons, tools, and traps using acquired materials, which is a new feature in Silksong. The game will bring back the checkpoint system from the original game.

Hornet utilizes silk instead of soul to heal, as the Knight from Hollow Knight did. Instead of stopping and patiently healing one mask at a time like the Knight, she may repair three masks of damage while on the go. This, however, uses up her entire bar of silk. This tweak was made to speed up the game and allow the creators to make it more challenging than Hollow Knight. Hornet, instead of leaving a Shade like the Knight, leaves a bundle of silk that when broken replenishes all 8 notches of silk in her bar.

Hollow Knight Silksong started as an expansion to the original Hollow Knight but it soon outgrew its original ambitions and the developers decided to make it a sequel.

Silksong is coming to the Nintendo Switch and PC. It was first revealed during a Nintendo Indie World Direct back in 2019, and the game has been missing in action since then. While it is understandable that there has been no response considering the small size of Team Cherry and their dedication to creating a perfect experience, it has taken far too long for some fans who have been waiting for a sequel to the critically acclaimed indie hit.

A new glimmer of hope has emerged again this time with GOG. The popular storefront has a mobile website that has listed Hollow Knight Silksong for a 2022 release. This discovery was shared by a user on reddit.

In the major Nvidia Geforce Now leak last year, Hollow Knight was listed as a release in February, but since there has been no announcement so far, it is easy to assume that this was likely a placeholder that won’t be possible now. However, the hope that the game comes out in 2022 remains strong especially after the GOG update which suggests a launch in 2022 is likely aside from any unforeseen circumstances.

Hollow Knight Silksong was first announced as part of the Nintendo Indies Direct back in February 2019. The game was confirmed to launch as a console exclusive to the Nintendo Switch while also releasing on PC. Despite announcing quite a while ago, the developers haven’t been able to share any announcements on when the game will be eventually out.

Today, on the official discord server, Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin, also known by his nickname Leth on the discord server, has confirmed that the game won’t get any new announcements during E3 later in June. Last we heard an update, the game was in final testing stage but the developer had warned that the release date is still far away.

“Hey guys! I just wanted to pop in to let you know that Team Cherry does not have any announcements/blogs scheduled for E3 this year, ” said Mathew in a message that he shared on discord.

This could mean that the game is still in development and the developers haven’t settled on a release date as of yet. We have to give them some time after all because Team Cherry is actually quite small and composed of just three team members. While they managed to knock it out of the park with Hollow Knight, the sequel was actually planned as a DLC to the first game.

Once the plans of the DLC became too ambitious, they settled on making a new character, Hornet, star in his own game which turned out to be Hollow Knight Silksong. This was a stretch goal for the original Kickstarter for the game.

Hollow Knight is a Kickstarter surprise success story. It was crowdfunded in 2014 on Kickstarter and initially released for PC back in 2017. Soon after release, it gained major critical acclaim and quickly became one of the most-talked indies slingshotting the developers to the top of Steam charts. It was later ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2018 followed by a port to PS4 and Xbox One.

Hollow Knight Silksong is a sequel to the original indie hit that was first revealed in 2019, and since then, it has been missing in action. However, the good news, for now, is that according to the community and PR manager at Team Cherry, they have finished developing content for the game, and right now it is in the final testing stage.

This message was shared by Mathew Griffin, who is known by his nickname Leth on the official Discord. When fans asked whether the game is complete by now, he shared the following statement.

“You could say “we’ve finished all the content of the game and are in final testing” but even THAT doesn’t say anything about release schedule – my own personal philosophy is that you should not announce a release date until you have a build that could be released, and then you’re just giving yourself some time to fix additional bugs and market a game.”

Judging from the statement, while the developers are wrapping up most of the work for Silksong, they want to make sure they have a release date that can be hit without issues before announcing one.
