Square Enix’s action role-playing game, Final Fantasy XVI, is set for release on Xbox this Spring, based on a new rumor.

Known insider and content creator Nate the Hate (also known as NateDrake) took to gaming enthusiast forum Reset Era to respond to a fellow forum member who brought his prior claim regarding the arrival of Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox. In response, he said that, barring any late changes, the action role-playing game won’t be released on Microsoft’s consoles in the immediate future. Instead, he said that Final Fantasy XVI should be set for release on Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2025.

Nate was also asked about the possibility of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth appearing on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S later this year. He responded by saying that Final Fantasy VII Remake is planned for later this year, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on Xbox consoles in the year 2026. He added that the timing of the announcement timing is the only unknown factor in this regard. Though, he believes that all three titles will be announced for Xbox simultaneously for maximum impact.

As far as the official word on the Final Fantasy VII Remake trillogy goes, during a recent interview with Danny Peña on YouTube, project director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase were asked about the possibility of Square Enix bringing the games over to Xbox. In response, Hamaguchi stated that while there isn’t anything he can say about the project appearing on Microsoft’s current-gen consoles at this time, Square Enix’s vision is to bring the trilogy to as many players as possible. He mentioned that the player base for the first two entries has been expanded via their PC releases, and he is hopeful that there may be opportunities that can be explored in order to expand it further.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has finally made its way to PC after a long wait. Originally launched on the PS5, it was hailed as one of the best games of last year. Given that Square Enix’s last PC port, Final Fantasy XVI, left fans a bit disappointed, everyone was holding their breath to see how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would perform on PC. And honestly, the port has blown past every expectation I had when it comes to technical quality and performance.

Right off the bat, it includes all the modern PC features you’d hope for, like DLSS, FSR, and other upscaling options. There’s also a wide range of graphical settings to tweak, letting you fine-tune the experience to your liking. The PC version even improves on the PS5 release in areas like lighting and texture streaming, on top of the expected upgrades in performance. It’s also impressively scalable, running well on both low-end and high-end systems. While I didn’t spend much time testing it on the Steam Deck, videos I’ve seen show it’s playable there too—though, naturally, the experience isn’t quite as smooth as on a full PC or PS5.

The PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes loaded with a bunch of great features. While some of these updates have been added to the PS5 version over time, it’s still a treat to have them ready to go on PC right from the start. The most notable improvements are quality-of-life changes, like the ability to fast-forward through cutscenes or a beginner-friendly difficulty mode for newcomers. The game also feels like a step up from its predecessor, especially in terms of technical performance. It supports higher frame rates, up to 120 FPS, and handles shader compilation during startup, which means fewer stutters during gameplay. This was a big issue in Final Fantasy VII Remake, so it’s great to see it fixed in the sequel.

With this PC port, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has become the best way to experience this highly praised JRPG. Not only does it deliver all the hallmarks of a well-made PC port, but it also runs smoothly on a wide variety of hardware. In my case, I tested it on a laptop with an RTX 4070 GPU and was able to play with most settings maxed out without any major problems. The frame rate stayed solid, especially with upscaling options enabled. While the PS5 Pro improved the blurry image quality of the original release, the PC version goes even further, offering better resolution and sharper textures. I was also glad to see less pop-in during exploration, which was a noticeable issue on the PS5.

The PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth isn’t without its flaws, but they’re relatively minor. I noticed a few visual quirks here and there, like missing foliage in certain areas and occasional stutters during camera movement. That said, it’s a huge step up from Final Fantasy VII Remake, which had more technical problems and felt less polished on PC. The same goes for Final Fantasy XVI, which, while mostly stable, struggled with performance and didn’t scale well on lower-end hardware.

Now, what about the game itself? We’ve already covered it in detail in our PS5 review, so you can check that out for a deeper dive. But to sum it up, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is arguably the ultimate Final Fantasy experience, setting a new standard for the genre. Even though it’s part of a trilogy and ties into Final Fantasy VII Remake, the story is easy to follow even if you haven’t played the previous games. The main characters are iconic, with decades of fan love behind them, and the expanded content gives them even more room to shine. I personally loved this fresh take on the Final Fantasy VII story—it feels more engaging than a straight, by-the-book remake. The gameplay is fantastic too, blending action and turn-based combat in a way that feels like the best of both worlds.

All in all, I’d highly recommend the PC port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to anyone looking for a top-tier JRPG. If you were let down by the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, this sequel fixes almost every issue. Beyond the technical polish, it’s also a massive adventure that will keep you hooked for hours. Completing everything the game has to offer can take well over 100 hours, but if you focus on the main story, you can finish it in about half that time. Either way, it’s an unforgettable journey.

Square Enix’s action role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is now available on PC, and if you’re wondering how it compares to the existing PS5 Pro version, read ahead.

In terms graphical settings, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth features reworked lighting, reduced pop-in as well as improved LoD and textures compared to the PS5 Pro version. However, there seems to be a graphical bug of sorts that results in foliage being missing and rock surfaces being less detailed in some areas.

In terms image quality, the PS5 Pro version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth internally operates at a dynamic resolution that is commonly at 1224p, which is then upscaled to 4K (2160p). On the other hand, the PC version has the option to deliver native 4K on capable hardware. In addition, DLSS is also available as an option for upscaling on modern NVIDIA GPUs.

Final fantasy vii rebirth pc ps5 pro Final fantasy vii rebirth pc ps5 pro

With regards to performance, the PS5 Pro version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth targets and maintains a rock solid frame rate of 60 fps, consistently adhering to a frame time delivery of 16.67 ms. Meanwhile, the PC version offers the option to play at up to 120 fps on capable hardware, but it suffers from occasional frame time hitches due to both runtime compilation of shaders and asset streaming.

All in all, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth delivers competent graphical improvements on PC over the mid-gen PS5, though there are some apparent visual bugs that can, at times, tip the scale in the console’s favor. The PS5 Pro also delivers a more consistently locked 60 fps, though the option to double the frame rate target on PC to 120 fps is welcome.

During a recenr interview, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi mentioned that, upon the release of the trailer for the PC version, he received a lot of requests for an update that could bring the graphical enhancements to the PS5 version. According to him, the development team would like to make this happen at some point within the limits of the console’s capabilities.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has revealed the improvements for the game’s upcoming PC version. He shared that the development team has focused on refining character and background modeling, as well as upgrading textures. Players with high-end PCs can expect a significant visual leap compared to the game’s PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro versions.

“We improved the overall lighting processes,” Hamaguchi stated in a recent interview. “Many of the depictions of the characters, the way their expressions are shown, [and] the way they look on screen have been significantly improved from the PS5 version.” These upgrades are especially noticeable in lighting effects and rendering, offering a more polished and immersive experience for PC gamers.

Square Enix confirmed that the PC version brings more customizable options, including Level of Detail (LoD) for background models and MIP maps for textures. These settings enable players to increase the density of background polygons and textures beyond what is possible on the PS5, providing more detailed visuals. Other notable enhancements include improved shadow quality, with advanced techniques like contact hardening and higher-quality hair shadows.

A recent comparison also highlighted how the PC version’s lighting system elevates the visual presentation. Additionally, support for NVIDIA DLSS technology ensures smooth gameplay, allowing the game to run at up to 120 frames per second on high-spec systems. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro version has recently received an update that introduced the new Versatility setting. This option uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to deliver sharper and cleaner visuals.

The PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set for release on January 23, 2025. It will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with an Early Bird discount of up to 30% on all editions for a limited time. Pre-orders are now open, offering fans a chance to secure their copy ahead of launch.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed Square Enix’s plans to expand the Remake series audience next year in 2025.

4Gamer recently published its annual end-of-the-year feature, where it interviews well-known people from the game industry for their end-of-the-year comments on the game that impressed or surprised them the most, their most memorable game content, the individual who’s work they enjoyed, and their aspirations for the coming year.

Final fantasy vii remake series

In his interview, Naoki Hamaguchi, game director of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, shared his aspirations for 2025. He mentioned that the development team at Square Enix is currently working on the third and final installment, and that it is working hard to deliver a fitting finale.

Hamaguchi further stated that the development team will continue to challenge itself in order to make the Final Fantasy VII Remake series available to more fans next year, and he asked for their continued support. This suggests that the series may be set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch successor and possibly even the Xbox Series X|S. The Final Fantasy VII Remake series director also talked about the upcoming PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, reminding fans that it will be released on January 23, 2025. He added that Square Enix will be holding a sale to commemorate the release of the PC version up until February 5, 2025. He hopes that those who have yet to try the game will take this opportunity to do so.

As for his favorite game of 2024, Hamaguchi mentioned Balatro as a highly addictive and easy-to-get-into card game that one tends to play repeatedly. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is the individual he paid attention to in 2024. He recalled seeing video footage of a SpaceX rocket returning to the launch pad, which made me feel the future and made him tremble. He hopes that private space travel will become a reality during his lifetime.

The development of part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is “progressing well”, according to the game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi.

Famitsu has returned with its annual end-of-the-year feature, where it interviews well-known people from the game industry for their end-of-the-year comments on the game that has grabbed their attention, the projects they’re currently involved in, and their aspirations for the coming year.

Final fantasy vii remake part 3 development

In his interview, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed how Final Fantasy Rebirth attracted a lot of attention at various awards in 2024. With regards to his aspirations for the next year, he hopes to take on new challenges to further expand the Final Fantasy VII fan base, as he continues to work on the third installment in the Remake trilogy.

Meanwhile, the game that grabbed Hamaguchi’s attention is none other than Grand Theft Auto VI. He said that the whole world is paying attention to the upcoming open world action game in 2025. With GTA V being such a huge hit, he believes that the development team at Rockstar Games must be under a lot of pressure to deliver a successful new entry. He added that he’s rooting for the developers from the sidelines.

As for an update on the development of part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Hamaguchi stated that the team, including himself, is currently working hard on the game. According to him, development is “progressing smoothly”, though he asked fans to wait a little longer for any new information to be revealed.

It makes sense that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director doesn’t have much to share on Part 3 at this time, given that it hasn’t even been a year since Rebirth’s release. He had the same update to share during an AMA earlier this month, where he said that the third installment is “progressing smoothly”.

Final Fantasy VII Remake 1.003 and Rebirth Update 1.080 Patch Notes

These updates address the vibration issue with the DualSense Wireless Controller, ensuring a smoother and more immersive gaming experience.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a bold reimagining of the 1997 classic, guided by the original creators. It combines traditional command-based combat with real-time action. The story follows Cloud, a former elite SOLDIER turned mercenary, who joins the Avalanche resistance group to stop the Shinra Electric Power Company from exploiting the planet’s life-force, mako. The game is the first in a multi-part series that revisits the original storyline up to the escape from Midgar while adding new elements.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continues the epic journey of Cloud and his friends after they escape from Midgar. As they explore the world beyond, players will experience a new story filled with exploration and adventure. The trilogy reimagines the legendary RPG for a new generation. The first game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, was released in 2020 to critical acclaim and sold over seven million units worldwide.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is available for PC, PS4, and PS5. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available for PS5 and is planned to launch for PC on January 23, 2025. It has also won the Game of the Year award for 2024.
