The September 17 update for GTA Online on PC introduces Anti-Cheat but in this process removes Steam Deck compatibility. This addition aims to enhance security and prevent cheating in the online mode. Rockstar has also provided options for players to disable BattlEye when playing Story Mode, giving them more flexibility. This can be done through the Rockstar Games Launcher or using the newly introduced launch argument, -nobattleye, for third-party launchers.

In addition to these security measures, the patch addresses several critical issues, including crashes that occurred during GTA Online sessions. Players were also facing problems accepting invites and joining others in multiplayer modes, both of which have been fixed to improve the overall online experience.

GTA Online September 17 Update Complete Patch Notes:

  • General:
    • Integrated BattlEye Anti-Cheat for GTA Online.
    • Added an option in the Rockstar Games Launcher to disable BattlEye Anti-Cheat for Story Mode play.
    • Introduced the launch argument -nobattleye to disable BattlEye Anti-Cheat for third-party launchers and Story Mode.
  • Fixes:
    • Fixed an issue that caused crashes while playing GTA Online.
    • Fixed an issue preventing players from accepting invites or joining other players.

Due to the addition of Anti-Cheat in GTA Online for PC, it is no longer possible to play the game on Steam Deck. Rockstar Games has confirmed this on their official website in a FAQ detailing the new changes.

According to the FAQ, “Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. You will be able to play GTAV Story Mode but unable to play GTA Online.”

Previously, GTA Online was playable on Steam Deck along with GTA V Story mode, but this is no longer the case since the last update. It remains to be seen if Rockstar has any plans to address this issue in any future updates. However, considering most anti-cheat games are not compatible with Steam Deck, it is likely that this won’t change in the future.

BattlEye Anti-cheat does work with Linux and Valve’s proton integration, but Rockstar hasn’t added support for it. However, if you are playing the game on a Windows handheld like Rog Ally, or Steam Deck with Windows installed, GTA Online will continue to work fine.

Rockstar Games founder Dan Houser’s new studio, Absurd Ventures, is currently working on a AAA open world action adventure game.

According to a job listing for the position of Lead Gameplay Designer at Absurd Ventures, the studio is working on a AAA open world action adventure game. The new recruit at Rockstar Games founder Dan Houser’s studio will become the hands-on contributor for the 3 Cs of game design i.e. Character, Controls, and Camera, in an open world action-adventure game. They will lead a team of multi-disciplinary specialists to work on combat and third person gameplay across multiple game modes.

Among the list of qualifications, it is mentioned that experience in Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5 is a plus, suggesting that this new project at Absurd Ventures is likely being developed using Unreal Engine 5. As per other details mentioned in the qualifications section, the unannounced open world action adventure game will feature melee and shooting mechanics as well as non-combat forms of action gameplay, such as driving, mounts, climbing, traversal, and platforming. Additionally, experience in working on multiplayer combat is also listed as a plus, suggesting that Absurd Ventures’ first game will feature some form of co-op or competitive modes. Given the popularity of Battle Royale games, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a mode based on the match type.

It is stated that Absurd Ventures is creating new IP across all platforms and for all formats. The studio is involved in building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a variety of genres, without regard to medium, to be produced for live-action and animation; video games and other interactive content; books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts.

For the uninitiated, DanHouser is a game writer and producer. He co-founded Rockstar Games and held roles as head writer and vice president of creativity until his resignation in 2020. His brother, Sam, is the president of Rockstar.

Rockstar Games has been working on a brand new IP ever since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, based on the latest rumor.

The information comes from one of the individuals who have been leaking the alleged GTA V source code. As per them, Rockstar Games is working on new IP with the help of a “hugely popular” third party developer. The game has apparently been in development since 2018, alongside after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar games new ip

Recently in October, 2023, Take-Two Interactive had filed a trademark for “Project Ethos”, though it’s unclear whether this is for Rockstar Games’ new IP. Back in 2021, during its Earnings call, the company had stated that it was preparing over 60 new releases, 23 of which are “immersive core” titles, between April, 2022 and March, 2024. As such, the trademark could be for any of these unannounced titles.

According to the source, there are two new IPs in development at Rockstar Games. One of them is the resurrected project titled Agent, while the other features a medieval fantasy setting. They mentioned that, even though it is in development, Agent will likely be released later on, during the next console generation. They added that a medieval fantasy IP could be a new route For Rockstar Games, possibly to rival the likes of Elder Scrolls and Elden Ring. As such, it will also take gameplay in a new direction, with a likely emphasis on melee weapons and sorcery.

Regarding the recently announced GTA VI, the individual stated that while it will sell very well, it will probably mark the death of the series. In their opinion, people will buy it simply because GTA V was popular, but the “millennial cringe” will turn a lot of people away from the series in the long run.

GTA VI is set to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced.

Rockstar Games has quickly released a small hotfix update for GTA V and GTA Online patching the game to version 1.004.001. This addresses the crashes.

It appears that the new ray tracing update might have led to the game facing some major issues especially related to new crashes. They were being reported by a majority of the players so Rockstar opted to release a quick hotfix that is just under 200 MB to resolve the issues. This hotfix is out now as GTA V Title Update 1.65.

This appears to only fix the issue with GTA V and GTA Online crashing during gameplay. However, if you want to know the list of substantial changes that were made in the last update, see them here.

GTA V Update 1.004.001 Patch Notes

[December 16, 2022] – Game Stability and Performance

  • Fixed multiple crashes that occurred in GTAV and GTA Online

Rockstar Games has released brand new content for GTA Online with the last patch bringing in new missions to attempt as well as new vehicles to unlock. There is plenty to get excited about though even if you play the single-player mode, as now the game has received a significant visual upgrade with ray-traced reflections. It previously only had ray-traced shadows which was a nice bonus to have on PS5 and XSX, but nothing too exciting.

The new reflections apply to almost any shiny or metallic surface that you can find in the game and they are worth a replay of the main story mode. You can take advantage of the new reflections on PS5 and XSX only for now as Rockstar Games never released the Enhanced and Expanded version for PC.

GTA V was first released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was followed by a launch on PS4 and Xbox One and finally, the PC version was released. Fans had to wait for a while to get their hands on GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series, and while these consoles were already backward compatible with PS4 and Xbox One release of the game, the new upgrade promised 60 FPS and improved visuals.

Rockstar Games has released GTA V update 1.004 today on PS5 and Xbox Series bringing ray-tracing support among other new content to GTA Online.

The new GTA V update is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. It is also launching for Xbox One and PS4 where the GTA V update version will likely 1.45. This Los Santos Drug Wars update brings plenty of new for GTA Online, but there is something for the single-player campaign too, especially for those who own the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The new GTA V update will bring ray-traced reflections to the game. Examples of the new ray-traced reflections can be seen in the tweets linked below.

For the PC version, the update size has been reported at 3 GB, while the PS5 version is at 5 GB and Xbox Series version at 13 GB. The size difference might be due to the better compression offered by the PS5 version while the PC version usually has smaller updates compared to the consoles.

Deathmatch Creator

The Deathmatch Creator is receiving updates to Play Area, Eligibility, Spawning, Scoring, and other general updates

Play Area

  • Active play areas will now display visually when they are shrinking
  • Shrink Time
    • The time to control shrinking play areas is now set to minutes and seconds, this was previously set to seconds
    • An option has been added to shrink the play area over the duration of a Deathmatch.
  • Shrink Conditions
    • A new option has been added to swap between time remaining and time elapsed to delay the start of the play area shrinking
    • Team Score and Players Remaining have been added as new conditions to start shrinking the play area
  • When setting the size that the play area will shrink to, a visual representation of the final size is now displayed in the Creator
  • A new option has been added to each play area that makes out-of-bounds spawn points invalid for player spawning. This keeps players spawning within their active play area throughout the Deathmatch, rather than respawning and being out of bounds again
  • A new cylindrical shape has been added for play areas. Players can set the height and radius for this as they wish, and spherical bounds are also still available for use

Modifier Set Eligibility

  • Eligibility will see the addition of new conditions to check and the ability to become scalable with lobby options through the percentage check
  • Conditions
    • New condition – Lives
      • A Modifier Set can be applied to players based on the number of lives they have remaining
    • New condition – Killstreak
      • Kills earned within a single life can be used to trigger a Modifier Set change. The Modifier Set is lost on death and players change back to their most relevant modifier
  • A new Comparison Type option has been added, allowing players to check a percentage or a specific value for the Condition set. Available for Score, Time, and Lives Conditions
    • This also allows the use of the lobby settings to change these values and the condition check to scale with them
    • This was previously only specific values

Spawning

  • Limit Spawn Protection Time – A new option has been added to Combat Settings to control the amount of time players are invulnerable after respawning
  • Modifier Restrictions – A new menu has been added to Spawn Point placement to allow you to restrict players from spawning at that spawn point if they have a specific Modifier Set active
  • When respawning, players will now have the last weapon they were using equipped if it is still in their inventory
  • When making a Deathmatch that only has one life available, the number of spawn points required only needs to match the number of players that can join the Deathmatch

Modifier Set – Scoring

  • Death Score – Players can now set score to receive on death within a Modifier Set
    • +/- score when dying
    • As well as +/- score when dying to melee or a set weapon group as a bonus
      • For example, you can leave Death Score at 0 but set Melee Death Bonus to -1. In this case players with that Modifier Set active will lose 1 point when being killed with a melee weapon

Creator

  • The Maximum number of Modifier Sets is now 25 (up from 11), allowing players to add even more customization to their Deathmatches
  • Team/Free for All only options are now greyed out when locked to a specific type of Deathmatch. This is to help reduce the number of potentially available options. So, if a player locks their Deathmatch to Free for All, Team-related options will become greyed out and unable to be used
  • Added an option to clear settings from the Default Modifier Set in the Manage Modifier Set menu
  • Modifier Sets can now have a name given to them, from a selection of 58 preset descriptive names
    • This is done in the Manage Modifier Set menu, press X/Square/Del on the Modifier Set in the Modifier Sets menu
  • Option to select a Modifier Set to test in Test Mode
    • Selecting this will stop your Modifier Set from changing during the test
  • Forced Test Modifier Set – A new option has been added to the test menu that allows players to select a specific Modifier Set to be used when entering test mode. When using this option, players are locked to using that Modifier Set for the entire test. Modifier Sets will not change when using this option
  • Disable Friendly AI – A new option has been added to the test menu that allows players to enter a team deathmatch test on their own. This will allow players to test their Modifier Set transitions without friendly AI also contributing to things like score that may cause a Modifier Set change.
  • A HUD element has been added to test mode that shows the players’ current Modifier Set, so they can easily tell which Modifier Set they are currently playing with while testing
  • The damage modifier option for Throwables within a Modifier Set has been removed

Ambient Settings

  • Lock Shops – A new option has been added to prevent players from entering shops when playing Deathmatches

GTA V has finally received a native PS5 and Xbox Series version. How well does this hold against the PC version and which platform is better?

The PC version of GTA V hasn’t received a similar upgrade to offer ray-tracing support, but it already featured many improvements over the console version that included soft shadows, higher draw distance, high frame rate, and resolution. The console version is finally comparable to the PC version and even surpasses it in some cases.

First of all, if you own Xbox Series S, there is some bad news here. GTA V doesn’t appear to run that well on Microsoft’s budget console. It struggles to maintain 60 FPS in performance mode and can even dip in the 30 FPS fidelity mode. This is despite the performance mode running at 1080p and the Fidelity mode at 1440p. This version also lacks a performance RT mode.

Xbox Series X also doesn’t appear to maintain a huge advantage in performance. It doesn’t maintain 60 FPS in performance mode but the frame rate is stable in the fidelity mode. The performance mode runs at 1440p resolution on both PS5 and Xbox Series X while the performance RT mode runs at a dynamic 1440p resolution on these consoles.

Fidelity mode is the one that offers a native 4K presentation with slightly amped-up visuals but at the expense of 30 FPS. It is pretty much locked to 30 FPS on both consoles.

Ray-tracing appears to improve the shadow quality but there might not be true ray-tracing for reflections in GTA V. Regardless, the reflections are on par and even better than the PC version at point while the shadow quality is higher on the PS5 and Xbox Series when rendering details in distance. The PC version has higher foliage density though, so there’s that.

GTA V is available now for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It has launched with a steep discount on Sony’s PlayStation Store as well as Xbox Live.

GTA V is finally available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X beginning March 15. Is there is a big visual bump here offered here to consider an upgrade?

Rockstar Games has already outlined some of the major changes that they have implemented in GTA V. This includes the support for ray-tracing, improved textures, lighting, and a 60 FPS performance mode. This will mark the first time Grand Theft Auto V will run at 60 FPS on consoles.

The improvements are obvious when we run the game on the PS5. We will use the ray-tracing mode as a comparison here. While I wouldn’t label these improvements are game-changer, and we have yet to see how well the PS5 version holds up against the superb PC version, this is still a decent upgrade if you are coming from the PS4 version.

The first and perhaps the biggest upgrade the PS5 version of GTA V is offering is here is for the shadow quality. Not only do characters feel like they have their place in the environments now with ambient occlusion and proper shadow depth, but they are also lit in a way that makes the scene offer better contrast and depth.

The character models have also received an upgrade as seen in the lead characters getting a facial and texture upgrade. They have a better facial appearance now compared to the PS4 version.

The draw distance has been increased and the foliage density is also higher now. Reflections are sadly not that great since they are not ray-traced but rather cube maps. They do offer a better result now thanks to the improved quality of the reflections. We have already covered a comparison of the reflections but they seem to be a decent upgrade. The water quality has been improved and the same applies to other environmental effects like Sand or Snow.

There are three display modes in GTA V Expanded and Enhanced. They are as follow:

Fidelity Mode: “Tuned for the highest visual quality and targets 30 FPS. In this mode the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X support native 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled while the Xbox Series S supports upscaled 4K resolution.”

Performance Mode: “Tuned for the most responsive gameplay experience and targets 60 FPS. In this mode the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X support upscaled 4K resolution while the Xbox Series S supports a resolution of 1080p.”

Performance RT Mode: “Hybrid of the Fidelity and Performance modes supporting upscaled 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled and targeting 60 FPS.”

GTA V is out on March 15 for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

GTA V PS5 is available now in New Zealand and Australia and comparisons have started to appear showing the new ray-tracing mode.

There are three different modes for GTA V on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game offers a performance mode, a fidelity mode, and an RT performance mode. The performance mode runs the game at 60 FPS while the Fidelity mode drops the frame rate to 30 FPS. The RT Performance mode offers the advantage of 60 FPS but with reduced resolution and effects to maintain performance.

Here is a comparison between the Fidelity mode and the Performance mode courtesy of Ben on Twitter.

You can learn more about the various visual modes that are available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X from this article.

The reflections are sadly not ray-traced but rather cube maps but their resolution has been greatly improved now. As a result, they look nicer and much cleaner compared to the PS4 version.

This is not just a visual upgrade but there is new content too. Although there is no major addition to the story mode for the game GTA Online has received a lot of upgrades in addition to new cars and features. GTA Online is also available as a standalone release now and will be free to play for PS5 users for three months from its initial launch.

GTA V Expanded and Enhanced is out on March 15 for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Rockstar Games has provided another overview of the new GTA V upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X detailing their features and visual updates.

We already know that GTA V will offer ray-tracing on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but they never confirmed the different performance modes. It turns out there are three different performance modes for GTA V on the current-generation consoles.

These are not the only features offered in these new versions. According to Rockstar Games, there is a lot more to enjoy with this enhanced release.

These new versions also offer across-the-board improvements including faster loading times, increased population and traffic variety, increased vegetation density, improved lighting quality across shadows, water reflections, and other elements. Plus improved anti-aliasing, motion-blur, highly detailed new explosions, fire, and much more.

There’s also new levels of responsiveness with Haptic Feedback and dynamic resistance via the Adaptive Triggers on PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller, adding new sensations to weather effects, directional damage, rough road surfaces, explosions and much more. Platform-specific features also include immersive audio using Tempest 3D positional audio on PlayStation 5 and Spatial Sound on Xbox Series X|S.

These improvements will extend to GTA Online as well. This version will add a new location: Hao’s Special Works that will offer “best-in-class vehicle upgrades, a new class of Races using specially modified vehicles, and a weekly rotation of Hao’s Special Works Time Trials, along with a Premium Test Ride”.

GTA V Enhanced and Expanded will be available on March 15, 2022, for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that they are releasing an update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition next week.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched with several issues ranging from inconsistent visuals, game-breaking bugs, to terrible performance. Rockstar Games has released a couple of updates for the game since its launch last year, but there are still some issues that persist. While they consider the game in an acceptable stage now based on the comments made by Take-Two Interactive CEO, they still have to fix some of the lingering problems.

grand theft auto: the trilogy

In a tweet today, Rockstar Games has confirmed that they will release a new update for GTA: The Trilogy tomorrow. They didn’t disclose what will be fixed, but it is sufficient to assume that some of the issues that have been reported so far will be addressed with it including for the Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game is available now in the form of a physical release, this is although this is the most problematic version out of all consoles with severe performance issues. While it might not be possible to resolve these issues completely, they can be addressed in a patch.

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition includes the classic 3D GTA games that are remastered with new visuals and run on Unreal Engine 4. This collection was released last September for all major platforms and it will also make its way to Mobile sometime later this year.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is available now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
